This past weekend the Arthur bear turned 3! We had a fun family weekend celebrating him. On Thursday he took a cookie cake that was decorated in a Ninja Turtle theme with little rings for all the kids in his class at mother’s morning out. On Friday I took Arthur and John Lloyd to read to Thomas’s class and then we all headed home to finish packing to go to Oxford. It is a blessing to have my parents there and makes weekends like the one we had possible without being terribly expensive.
We arrived Friday evening and got ready to take Thomas and Arthur to the Ole Miss basketball game. These two really get into it and love to pretend they are different Ole Miss players when they play basketball on the little goal in our living room or outside. It’s a lot of fun but sometimes there’s conflict over wanting to be the same player! Friday happened to be the first home game of the season and it turned out to be a great night. We left John Lloyd with my parents during the game. This is also a blessing as it’s not a lot of fun taking a 7 month old to a sports event during his feeding and sleep time. We ate dinner at the game which consisted of Thomas having pizza, Arthur having a hot dog and LOTS of popcorn shared by all. That was one of the highlights of the game to them.
When we asked Arthur what he’d like to do for his birthday, the answer we kept getting was, “Go to the bookstore and pick out a book for me.” And that’s what we did. I love that they love books, and I hope they always will love reading. Square Books Junior is a favorite for story time whenever we’re in Oxford. So Saturday morning after breakfast, we headed up to the square for that. Story time was fun as always. Ms. Jill also played the Happy Birthday song on the guitar for Arthur and another little boy turning 3 too.
We had a wonderful weekend celebrating with our sweet boy. Arthur has changed so much this past year and especially in the last few months since we have had John Lloyd. It was only a year ago that he still called Thomas “Name” instead of Thomas. It was so funny.
He’s such a tender hearted little guy. He’s adjusted well to the change we’ve had over the past few months. He became a middle brother. And he lost his playmate for much of the day when Thomas started kindergarten. Finally, I feel like the past month has felt “good” for everyone. That “good” when it feels like there’s a natural flow in our days.
Arthur is an observer and serious and still pretty quiet. He’s always loved sitting in my lap when we’re out in the front yard and content to watch the older boys play without much of a need to venture far. Lately, he’s starting to venture out to take part in the action.
There’s also a silly side to Arthur that I love. I’m not silly by nautre. And I think God has given him this trait to also help me not be so serious. His blonde hair and blue eyes and little voice are adorable to me. He’s a joy to this family, and I look forward to watching him become what God has planned for him.
We love you, Arthur!
