Spring has sprung

April began and it feels like it’s over before it got started. We’re not much for staying busy for the sake of staying busy. But this month has lots of extra things for us outside the normal. The first weekend of April we had our church spring festival coupled with the Easter egg hunt for the kids. This is always a great time! This was actually the first year we have combined the two events, and it was a great idea. It was a really fun afternoon with lots of fellowship and everyone chasing kids around. This goes with the territory since we are so blessed to have a ton of small children in our growing church. There were bouncers and games for the kids. And lots of yummy hot dogs and hamburgers. There ended up being some pretty bad weather later that night. The weather was starting to turn about the time we started the egg hunt so it made things a little chaotic trying to get everyone done with finding eggs and everyone trying to make plates for lots of hungry kids all at the same time. But it was a lot of fun. On the way to the church Thomas says, “Why do we always have such fun things at our church?”

While we didn’t manage to get a picture our own kids together, we tried corralling all the kids together for a picture. This is a good number, but just a fraction of those that were there!

April has also been a time of spring cleaning in overdrive. The thing is I love to organize and clean out spaces at any given time. But during the past year, my time has been crunched. The days seem to be over before they start, especially when being awoken in the night by the baby. So we’ve had a few good weeks of sound sleep and some beautiful weather and the spring cleaning has gone into full force. I have loved being able to tackle some of the areas I have walked past a million times and made a mental note of wanting to change it somehow or needing to go through it. We’ve gone through our dresser drawers and closets and purged a lot. I’ve cleaned out bathroom drawers. We’ve gotten a lot of baby items put away that we’re not using right now or put some on loan to others. And all that clears out a lot of space in our small house. And I’ve spent a good bit of time swapping over the boys winter clothes to spring and summer things. As they’re getting older, this takes more time to do it seems like.
I took advantage of some time when Tom took the boys camping, and was able to knock out a good bit on my list.

One project on my list was working on the boy’s play table. We got a play table from Pottery Barn Kids for Christmas when Thomas was about one and a half. It’s served us so well with the lower height so they could set up trains and the carts underneath to store toys. Now that they’ve gotten a little bigger, it’s been clear it was time to make some changes. They had been sitting on top of the table with their coloring things or playing cars off the top of the table.

I swapped out the legs and added the taller ones that came with the table that we had stored. And also pained the table to get a new look and added some play chairs. We’re really pleased with how it turned out, and I’m hoping this new setup will serve us well for a while.

Thomas has also started baseball. This is his third season and currently the only activity we’ve done. He loves it so much! This age is still laid back and easy. There are just a few practices and not taken too seriously. As they get older and we explore more activities, things will get more complicated I’m sure. But right now we’re looking forward to a few Saturdays watching Thomas enjoy being part of a team and have a good time.

We enjoyed a wonderful Easter weekend and looking forward to ending the month with some fun end of the year activities for Thomas and Arthur at their schools.
