First Week of Summer

Last week was our first full week of summer break. We were so glad to all be together and not have any real plans. Plus, it was a bit of an in limbo week being that we were leaving for the beach at the end of the week. So we took advantage of not having to be anywhere in the mornings. Our mornings mostly looked like Thomas and Arthur strolling into our room and laying in our bed for a while and watching a show. I laid with them until it was time to start getting breakfast ready and get JL up. They generally don’t watch a lot of TV, but this is one time of the day that we do let them watch a show or two until we have breakfast ready, mostly only on the weekend or days they don’t have school to get ready for.

We joked that because of our laid back morning routine this week, Tom was the one who was getting the short end of the stick on breakfast. During the school year, we try to have breakfast already prepared ahead of time.

The majority of the week we got out in the mornings to run errands or go to the gym for a quick workout and spent the afternoons at home.

We spent one morning at the library. And this particular day Tom and I swapped cars so he could get the oil changed in my car, which is always helpful. Once we got to the library, I realized the stroller was also in my trunk. As much as Thomas and Arthur enjoyed picking out books and looking around, it was a bit stressful maneuvering trying to help them find things and look up books with one hand while holding JL with the other. Every time I tried to put him down he went straight for the shelves of books and started pulling books off. So next time I will double check that we have a stroller!

The boys also got some much needed haircuts. Both of them had gotten to a cute length that flips out under the base of a hat. A friend of ours cuts their hair, and Thomas told her he wanted to keep the curls. She didn’t take too much off! But it’s about to get so hot here I hated not to get some of the weight off.

After their haircuts we headed to a trip to Fresh Market for a few things we needed for the beach and picked up dinner. They love helping with groceries, but they especially love going here because they get a cookie in the bakery. I actually have memories from the time I was about Thomas’s age of going to the grocery store where we lived and my brother and I getting cookies from that bakery as well. We also stumbled across these Honest fizz drinks. They both take the Honest pouches when they take a lunch to school. And recently they’ve been introduced to Sprite and loved it! And while we explained it’s just like any treat and will be an every now and then thing, I was happy to see this version and give it a try. They actually thought it was Sprite.

After the rain at the beginning of the week, the weather was so nice. The highs were only in the low 70s, which is more like a March day than the end of May. So we took advantage of it and met up with friends at the park and brought lunches. We stayed until both babies were on the verge of needing naps.

We wrapped up the week prepping some food to take with us to the beach, getting laundry done, and packing up for the beach.
