End of School Bash + Weekend Things

This past Friday night our neighborhood had an end-of-school bash to celebrate the end of the school year. The first time we did this was back in August to kick off the school year. There was such a great turnout that they decided to do it again for the end of the year. And hopefully we will continue to do so.

There was swimming, inflatables in the green space near the clubhouse, food trucks, snow cones, and music! It was a really fun event and a great way to foster community within the neighborhood. We decided to walk down and put JL in the stroller. My thought was he would be content sitting in the stroller watching everything going on. Plan B was if he got fussy I could just sit with him by the pool and let him splash his feet – he enjoyed that a few nights prior – or just be able to put him down in the grassy area to crawl around and play. But just as we arrived it started raining. Just a little shower and it passed quickly so everyone kind of waited it out. After the rain cleared, it turned out to be a really beautiful evening.

The boys loved playing with all their friends. JL got tired of being in the stroller and wanted to be in the pool. Thankfully, I had a swim diaper handy. I just put that on him and passed him to Tom in the pool with the others. He absolutely loved it so much more than he did the first time I took him a week or so ago.

We wrapped up the night with the boys getting hot dogs from the food truck and heading home for baths.

The next morning Thomas had a baseball game. The weather was threatening rain all morning but thankfully they were able to play. It rained a touch at the game and then the sun came out in full force, which made it quite steamy. Arthur ventured out onto the field with Tom to help “coach” first base. He was more interested in playing in the dirt, I think!

Saturday night we celebrated the birthday of one of our best friends. Her husband was so sweet to have a surprise get together for her birthday with a few close friends. Although, I think she caught on to the surprise before we arrived. This is so much fun for all of us and the kids. They’re all just off by a year or so from each other and it’s so special to have such great friends to share this time of life with. They’re in the middle of a newborn with colic and reflux, much like us a year ago, which is so very hard especially when you have other little kids to take care of. They’ve had a few tough weeks, so it was nice to be able to have a night to celebrate my sweet friend.  She’s a wonderful friend and awesome mother!

Sunday morning was church and then some grocery shopping. Tom tried to get in some tennis in the afternoon and it ended up storming and he had to come home. He came home to me and the boys napping on the couch while JL was still asleep in his crib. It was such a good afternoon for a nap and so special to cuddle up with them. It’s rare these days for Thomas to admit he’s tired or to actually take a nap.

We wrapped up the weekend with a movie and popcorn night treat.

Not a bad start for the first weekend of our summer break!
