John Lloyd, 15 Months

He is 15 months old going on 6 years. His biggest frustrations arise over doing things that surpass his abilities. He watches big brothers ride scooters, so he should ride one too. He watches big brothers eat with forks and spoons, so naturally he should too. And the list goes on and on! I suppose that’s how it goes being the smallest brother.

It’s only been a few short months since he started walking, and it already seems like he’s been on the move much longer than that. My arms and shoulders have had a little break not lugging him around all the time. It’s much more fun watching him walk, sometimes a little too fast, to keep up with his brothers than carrying him.

He’s not saying many more words right now. He does point and say “this” to most everything. He babbles in complete sentences very intently, with expressions to go along, like we should know exactly what he’s saying. He does this so much we joke that if it’s any indication of how much of a talker he’s going to be Thomas may have some competition.

He’s currently loving to sit and babble to his books. Occasionally, I will find that he’s wandered back to his room and sitting on the floor flipping through some books. With all of our kids we’ve always read to them at naptime and bedtime. It’s one of my favorite times of the day.

He also enjoys putting items in places they don’t belong, and when this involves the one paci he loves, that presents a problem. One night I found it, after plenty of searching, in his dresser drawer. Or when we were at my parent’s house and after lots of searching, we finally found his sippy cup in the microwave of the play kitchen.

He’s also made friends with Kirby, our dog. He enjoys taking his food out of his bowl and putting the pieces on the floor for the dog. After we’d been away for a week at my parents’, I found him in the laundry room sitting by the dog bowl taking a piece or two out at a time and trying to feed Kirby. More recently he got a bag of cereal out of the pantry, and I found he and the dog sitting on the floor both enjoying some cereal. And like Thomas at this same age, he loves to walk up to Kirby and emphatically demand that he “sit.”

Currently he’s drooling quite a bit again. Since turning one, he’s had all his baby teeth except the two year old molars. It seems like they must be making a move with the onset of the drool. This has been the same for all the boys so far, but the discomfort has been a little bit harder on him than the others.

This is one of my favorite stages. It’s as if they’ve taken in all that has been going on around them until now and suddenly there’s an explosion where they start putting things together on their own. Just the other day he reached on the counter and got my keys and then promptly walked to the back door saying “bye-bye”

There’s also plenty of challenges that come along with this stage as well. We’re no strangers to that part either.

It’s such a blessing to watch Thomas and Arthur love him and include him in what they’re doing. This also includes playing in the costume basket.

Every morning when they hear him awake in his crib they both ask to go in and see him. They’ll sit in there for a bit just talking to him and hanging out for a bit until I come to change his diaper and get him out of the crib. It’s a sweet moment watching them together.
