Last night was meet-the-teacher night at Thomas’s school. We made it to the school with all kids in tow around 5:00, and it was the chaos you would expect an elementary school to be the evening before the first day of school. There were families and kids everywhere with much excitement seeing their new classrooms.
When we finally made it to Thomas’s class, we were greeted cheerfully by his new teacher and assistant. Thomas quickly found his seat at the table where his name was and got familiar with his new surroundings. At his table alone he is seated with two friends from his Kindergarten class.

Honestly, John Lloyd may have been more excited about the classroom than Thomas. He was running around in true form happy in the new environment. There were clear bins with assorted classroom things inside including blocks that he quickly found and continued pointing to.
We gathered the folder of paperwork and forms to return to school, stopped by to say hello to his sweet teacher from last year, visited more with friends, and then finally decided it was time to get some dinner.
Thomas picked our favorite Mexican restaurant. We talked over dinner about all the exciting things to take place today and headed home to get in the bed on time.

This morning we got up at a pretty early time, one that we’ll have to get used to pretty quickly, I’m afraid. Our morning routine ran pretty smoothly and Tom and Thomas were out the door with plenty of time to spare to brave the chaos of the car rider line, which can be crazy the first few weeks of school. I can’t state enough how fortunate I am for Tom to take this role on. Those two enjoy their time together in the car in the morning and it saves me from having to wake the little ones up SO early.

The forecast called for rain today and thankfully I packed Thomas’s rain jacket in his bag. It was overcast most of the day and right around the time the bus should have arrived to drop Thomas off it started pouring. The bus was running behind, as usual for the first few days of school. Thankfully, by the time he got off the bus the rain had almost cleared out. A little rain didn’t stop Arthur from waiting to get a peek at his brother….

We got a good report of the first day of 1St grade. According to Thomas the most exciting thing was having so many friends he already knows in his class. Not a bad way to start the school year at all!
