Favorite Christmas Books

We LOVE Christmas books!

Over the past few years we’ve managed to collect quite a number of Christmas books. Mostly, these have been gifted to them at Christmas by us. I love to pick up a new book and give each child a new Christmas book in their stocking. It’s become somewhat of a tradition. Others have been given as gifts by grandparents or other family members. Some we pick up at the library during the Christmas season. And some we’ve gotten on sale after Christmas to add to our collection. Note to self: I need to be more diligent at doing this!

Some of the books are based on the birth of Jesus Christ and the true meaning of Christmas. Others are fun stories of other popular Christmas characters.

I’m adding THIS one to our December 1st box this year to give to the boys to enjoy through December. I always like to add a newly released Christmas book at the beginning of December.

Then I will shop Barnes & Noble’s half off sale right after Christmas to add a few more I have my eye on for our collection.

Here’s what we have in the box so far:

Some of the paperback ones make excellent stocking stuffier:)

These books used to be relegated to a section on the top shelf on the bookshelf in the older boys’ room, largely forgotten for most of the year. However, it’s wasn’t entirely uncommon for them to sneak up and grab a book from the stack to read in July! As our collection has grown, they’ve been given their own green storage box and come down from the attic with all the other Christmas decorations.

Once we start decorating and getting in the Christmas spirit, these books make an appearance for most every reading time. They’re all put in a basket in the living room for them to look through as they please. Most nights they’re scattered about and eventually put back in the basket for the next days’ reading. One book, ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas, is saved until Christmas Eve when we also read the account of Christ’s birth from the Bible before it’s time for bed.

And, occasionally, this is what the floor looks like when a toddler rummages through the stack.  Reading books with our kids that celebrate the season is something we enjoy immensely and hope to continue for years to come.
