Class Cooking

Last Friday I had the privilege of spending some time with Thomas at his school. At the beginning of the school year, his teacher had some lists of a few things to volunteer for throughout the year. Of course, I signed up to read to the class. And also for one of the cooking slots.

Keep in mind that our kids love to help in the kitchen. And I had these thoughts in my head when I signed up. Turns out I had to come up with something that all 21 kids can do together in 25 minutes. So while I would have liked to do something more hands on that involved more cooking skills, I opted for something simple to assemble.

The class is still in their winter unit and studying a snowman poem. And I happened to find these snowmen on a stick and thought they would be a good fit. I assembled all the donuts on the skewers the night before. I also had all the other candy separated and cut ahead of time to make it more streamlined for the kids.

The kids seemed to enjoy them. They probably spoiled some of their lunch since we did this right before their lunch time. But no one complained.

As usual it was a joy to see Thomas interact with his classmates. He was so excited and even said that morning before he left for school, “Don’t forget you’re coming to my class today.”
