I’m learning I need to write down books my boys love at different ages so I can go back and remember what they loved when the next boy gets to that stage. Of course, there are always new titles coming out and their interests may be slightly different, but I want to start keeping a log of the ones that really keep their attention and they want to reread.
I realized a while back that there’s no way we will ever be able to buy every book they read. We utilize our library a LOT! Without the books on our shelves to see, I need a list to remind me.
Do you have a middle grade reader? If so, here are 5 series Thomas(9) has loved recently!

GUTS AND GLORY BY BEN THOMPSON There are 4 books in this series. The American Revolution, The Vikings, The American Civil War, and WWII. We do own all of the books in this series, and they’re fantastic. I want my boys to love reading, but I equally want them to have a love of fiction and non fiction.
Every book has pages of facts and pictures to keep their attention. Just a really well-done series. Thomas has actually reread all of them several times because he’s enjoyed them so much.

THE LAND OF STORIES BY CHRIS COLFER There are six books in this series about two siblings who fall into a fairy tale world. Each of these books are nice and long and quickly kept Thomas’s attention. We checked out two books at a time of this series because as soon as he read one he was asking for the next.

PETER AND THE STARCATCHERS BY DAVE BARRY There are five books in this series. The first book is the backstory about how Peter became Peter Pan and the subsequent books are about his adventures. Lots of action and super fun.

FUNJUNGLE SERIES BY STUART GIBBS There are six books in this series, with a 7th coming out in May of 2021. Two kid are out to solve the mysteries of missing animals in the Funjungle zoo.

PERCY JACKSON AND THE OLYMPIANS BY RICK RIORDAN This is the first series among the three Percy Jackson series, with five books in the series. We were given this set as a gift, and he’s reread these several times. Thomas enjoyed studying Greek mythology last year, so these were exciting to him. After reading this first series, he went on to read the next two.
